Tony was on the couch holding a glass of whiskey when she came in the door. A new phone and smartwatch were on the coffee table in front of him alongside their opened boxes.

He stood. “Did you do it?”

Wordlessly, she passed him the hard drive, unable to keep the grin from her face. He set his glass down before taking it from her. She half expected him to whisper, “Precioussss,” the way he cradled it in his raw palms.

“And—” She pulled out the bottle labeled CF Solution and the formulas that went with it. “Bullets!”

His eyes lit up as they fell upon the gray liquid.

“You’re welcome,” said Halley.

“You got all this? No one saw you?”

“Loads of people saw me,” said Halley. “But look at me!”

She twirled, letting him take in her new skin.

“Tony, we’re untraceable. We don’t have fingerprints or hair. Our faces are a mess. It’s the perfect disguise. The only way we’re going to jail is if they physically catch us.”

Tony stared at her.

“We can pull off perfect heists,” she said.

He was silent as he processed this, eyes darting over the floor. She waited for him to react, holding her breath.

“And the feel?” he said at last.

“Feel?”

“The air. Your nerves.”

“I felt the cops coming before they left the elevator.”

Tony closed the distance between them. He stopped near enough that she could feel the blood pulsing through his veins. With a gentle hand, he brushed a finger over her bottom lip. The sensation sent a shiver through her.

“Get some sleep,” he said. “We’re leaving first thing.”

“Where are we going?”

He planted a soft kiss on her lips. “Every business model needs testing. Let’s play with how effective this one is.”
